Pain Turns Into Opportunity

The insight in this picture came from a coaching conversation with an incredibly capable client who had been locked down in Victoria but struggling with on-going hurt.

You can have a PhD and be in emotional pain. You can be a CEO and be in emotional pain. You can own a big business and not have it all figured out.

We are generally not taught to understand emotions or how to process them.

My client said that she had been trying to “avoid” the pain of her marriage separation and other child hood trauma by distracting herself with a myriad of things. She was scared to face the pain because she feared she would never recover.

What she learned was that the pain grew the more she tried to ignore it. It was not just emotional pain, but had grown into body pain.

After our work and learning from the pain, rather than reliving it, she summed up her key insight as being “Pain turns into opportunity”.

Have you got some on-going pain you are trying to ignore? Do you fill up your day with tasks and busy-ness so you don’t have to face what you feel?

Time doesn’t heal all wounds. Processing the emotion does.
